Warranty

** Updated 2022 / 03 / 16 **

Thank you for your purchase of a new PC from TheGeekyHippo. We take a lot of pride in our computers, and we are sure that your new machine will serve you well for years to come. We are confident in our craftsmanship and parts selection.

All of our PCs come with 1 year warranty. A part fails during normal operation, we will replace it!

In addition, all the parts have longer warranties through the manufacturer, and we could assist in getting a part warrantied to them. We feel that the 1st year of the warranty through us makes the process smooth, and from statistical analysis we observed that parts that don't fail within the first year have very low likelihood to fail on the 2nd or 3rd year.

One year through us, longer than that through the part manufacturer with our assistance. So, we got you covered!

Are you wondering about further details on what is covered and what is not? The PC is giving you trouble? Do you think a part might have gone bad? Is the repair under warranty? Read on!

What is covered by the warranty

  • A part goes bad during normal use. As normal use we define using the computer within the designated parameters of operation. This means no overvoltage, no overclocking, no mining.

  • Extended usage within the designated operation parameters is considered normal use, so if your PC is running 16 hrs a day, but you are not overclocking it or mining on it, it is still normal use.

  • System stops working because of a defect in assembly (poor craftsmanship) While we stress test the computers extensively before delivery, sometimes we don't catch every potential failure mode.

  • System doesn't work as intended because of a driver or program installed by us that is incompatible with the computer

What is NOT covered by warranty

  • Overclocking

  • Mining

  • Viruses

  • Any software installed by the end user

  • Windows reinstalls

  • Spills inside the PC

  • Drops or hits

  • Excess of dust or crud accumulated inside the PC. The PC will give you many years of good use, but it requires also some attention. Dust the interior every 3 months.

  • Electric surges. Always use a surge protector with at least 1000J transient rating! Even if using a good surge protector, ALWAYS disconnect the surge protector from the wall during a storm.

  • Any other kind of abuse not explicitly described that is out of normal use

Some special cases, like upgrades performed by the end user are not clear, so deserve special consideration.
As such, alterations and upgrades performed by the end user should be avoided until you are completely certain that the PC you got is running fine.

Furthermore, before performing an upgrade we strongly suggest that you contact us first, as we can advise on the planned alteration.
You might need a bigger PSU that you had not accounted for, maybe that RAM will not play nice with the memory already in there, or maybe that SSD won't fit ;)

Any requesr for warranty work will generate a labor charge.
If the diagnosis shows that the part failed under normal operation, the affected part(s) gets replaced for free and the labor charge is waived.

Same way, if the diagnosis reveals that the PC failed because of abuse or a condition not covered (electric surge or a spill for example) you will be billed the labor charge, even if you don't take the parts replacement.
That overclock dialed too hard on the voltage that fried the CPU? We will catch it, we know a thing or 2 about electronics!

When in doubt, just ask!
